Hillel Provides Students a Glimpse of the Business World

One of UW Hillel’s newest student organizations, the Jewish Business Network, has grown in popularity since its inception last year as a result of its hands-on approach to learning and networking. The Network enables students to explore the facets that characterize the realm of commerce through establishing connections with leading Jewish business executives. Each month, Hillel students and selected speakers meet to examine the logic of business leadership. Students interested in business have the opportunity to engage with Jewish executives, establishing connections while they pick up tricks of the trade.

Within the small group setting, the students can interact with speakers on an interpersonal level. Unlike other business groups on the UW campus, the Jewish Business Network ‘s meetings are informal, facilitating open dialogue and active participation. Students utilize each seminar to fine-tune their abilities to manage conversations and ask effective questions. As a result of the group’s focus on interactive meetings, the students’ roles are as important as those of the executives.

One of the organization’s key objectives is to strengthen connections within the Jewish community. By bringing multiple generations together, the Jewish Business Network encourages executives to pass their wisdom on to an enthusiastic group of students, promoting increased correspondence among members of the community. The group enables students to engage with potential mentors and provides a support group for Jewish business-minded students, and thus fosters the Jewish community on campus and beyond.

The group hosted two speaking events during the fall semester, and plans to hold three additional meetings throughout the spring semester. If you are interested in speaking at a Jewish Business Network meeting in the future, please contact Jonathan Eisen, Director of Programs and Engagement by email or at (608) 256-8361.
