Congregation Shaarei Shamayim is Hiring!

Congregation Shaarei Shamayim, Madison’s Jewish Reconstructionist and Renewal Congregation is looking for students to fill the following positions:

Work with Kids on the High Holidays – Jewish Holiday Teachers
Want to do something meaningful on the High Holidays but you don’t want to sit through four hour services?  Be at teacher in Shaarei Shamayim’s High Holiday childcare program.  We are looking for some teachers who can work lead fun, enriching Jewish activities with children in our childcare program during adult services.  Applicants must be great with kids, be able to work with kids ages 2-8, and have some knowledge of Jewish traditions.  We are also looking for someone to staff our pre-teen lounge and work with kids ages 9-12 years old.  We will provide Jewish activities and books to use. 

This takes place during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services roughly at these times: September 28 – 6:30-9:30pm; September 29 - 10:30-2:00pm; October 7 - 5:30-8:30pm; October 8 - 10:30-2:00pm.  (Morning services begin at 9:30am but childcare workers are not needed until 10:30am.)  We are willing to hire people who can work at some but not all of these services.  We meet at the First Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay Drive, a quick ride from campus.  To apply please email Rabbi Laurie Zimmerman at rabbi@shamayim.org and attach a resume and cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications.

Youth Group Director
We are looking for a responsible, highly motivated student who can run our youth group.  Applicants must be great with pre-teens and teens, extremely organized, enthusiastic, and able to create social and religious programming for pre-teens and teens.  Our youth group programs take place once a month, usually on the weekends.  Previous experience in Jewish high school youth groups is desired.  To apply please email Rabbi Laurie Zimmerman at rabbi@shamayim.org and attach a resume and cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications.

Tot Shabbat Songleader
We are looking for a dynamic song leader to lead monthly Shabbat morning services for children ages 0-5 years old.  Applicants must be great with kids, able to lead basic Jewish songs, and available on most of the following dates: October 15, December 10 (2011), January 14, April 28, July 14, July 28 (2012).  Service times are 9:30am-10:30am.  We meet at the First Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay Drive, a quick ride from campus.  To apply please email Rabbi Laurie Zimmerman at rabbi@shamayim.org and attach a resume and cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications.

Bet Sefer (Hebrew School) Tutors
We are hiring Hebrew school  tutors for this next academic school year.  Tutoring takes place during the week in the afternoon on the near west side of Madison.  We follow the UW calendar year.  Tutors must be great with kids, enthusiastic, creative, responsible, and knowledgeable in Hebrew reading.  Ability to speak Hebrew is a plus.  This is a wonderful opportunity to gain tutoring experience, build your resume, be part of a meaningful Jewish community, and earn some money at the same time.
