UW Hillel Internships

Hillel offers both one-semester and one-year internships for outstanding college students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Interns gain a unique opportunity to affect many aspects of Jewish campus life while receiving an excellent professional and learning experience. Hillel offers opportunities for students to serves as interns. Hillel interns will be responsible for coordinating, organizing and executing programming in their specific program area.

An ideal intern will be a student active in campus life with strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to Hillel and Jewish life on campus and a strong desire to develop programming for campus. Interns will work closely with a Hillel professional as their supervisor. The Hillel professional and intern will decide on appropriate hours for the internship. Though specific requirements vary by position, all interns will be required to attend an orientation meeting, set and meet goals through regular meetings with their Hillel supervisor, and participate in monthly meetings with the Hillel supervisor and full intern staff.

Listed below are brief descriptions of each internship position.

 

 

 


Engagement Internship

The engagement internship will consist of exceptional students who will work this Fall to plan and implement programs for incoming freshman and upper classmen. The internship begin in August and continue through the end of the Fall Semester (availability by phone or email over the summer break is a plus), ending in December with end-of-semester programming. Responsibilities include:

  • 8 to 10 hours a week that include weekly meeting times with a Hillel staff supervisor. These hours may include working in the building or being on campus.
  • Return to campus prior to the start of classes for training and Welcome Week Programming.
  • Implement events during Welcome Week and move-in.
  • Plan and implement regular tabling and programming throughout the fall semester in the dorms and throughout campus.
  • Help with Hillel program tasks and preparations.
  • One semester commitment.

Four (4) undergraduate interns for a one-semester commitment. $600/semester paid via tuition reimbursement. Approximately 8-10 Hours/week.

Religious Life

Religious Life Interns create exciting campus-based movement-focused programs, receive training and craft Hillel¡¦s religious presence on the UW-Madison campus. Each Intern will be expected to work with the Campus Rabbi to develop Friday Evening Shabbat observance, Saturday morning minyanim, Havdallah, and Festival observances. Additionally, Religious Life Interns work to support other Hillel programming by enhancing the religious community on campus.

Three (3) undergraduate interns for a one-semester commitment. $500/semester paid via tuition reimbursement. Approximately 5-6 Hours/week.

Development

The Development Intern will report to the Annual Campaign Director and the Capital Campaign Director, and may also work in partnership with other members of Hillel¡¦s staff.

  • Work with the Capital/Annual Campaign Directors in developing marketing and communications materials.
  • Manage and update database for e-newsletters and mailings.
  • Work with the Capital/Annual Campaign Director to research foundations and write grant proposals.
  • Work with the Annual Campaign Director to edit and refine reports, send out mailings, manage lists, and assist with events logistics.
  • Other writing, research, and logistical assistance as needed.

One (1) undergraduate intern for a one-semester commitment. Approximately 5-6 Hours/week.

Birthright Israel

The Birthright Israel Intern will assist in implementing UW Hillel¡¦s Taglit: Birthright Israel campus trip. The intern will work with Hillel staff on Taglit: Birthright Israel administration, recruitment, orientation, and follow-up. The Birthright Israel intern will be an exceptional student who can serve as an informal peer educator about Israel, speak highly of the Taglit: Birthright Israel experience, and who has strong organizational skills.

One (1) undergraduate intern for a one-semester commitment. Approximately 5-6 Hours/week.

Communication Intern

The communication intern will work with the Director of Jewish Student life on compiling and writing Hillel's weekly e-newsletter and manage UW Hillel communication with the students via facebook and our website.

Responsibilities include:

  • compile and write Hillel's weekly e-newsletter
  • Manage Hillel's facebook page
  • Update the Hillel's website
  • Other writing as needed

One (1) undergraduate intern for a one-semester commitment (optional full year). $300/semester paid via tuition reimbursement. Approximately 5-6 Hours/week.
